Approved the sale of the “Compass Call” to Italy

A press release from the U.S. State Department announces the approval of a potential military sale to Italy of the EA-37B “Compass Call electronic attack aircraft, estimated at $680 million (which would likely involve the acquisition by Italy of at least two aircraft). The sale includes a range of advanced equipment such as targeting systems, radio frequency receivers, radios, and encryption devices, as well as logistical and technical support.

The press release highlights that this sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy objectives, as it will help strengthen the security of a NATO ally, promoting political and economic stability in Europe. No negative impact is anticipated on the military balance in the region or on U.S. defense readiness.

It is noteworthy that the principal contractor will be BAE Systems, based in the United States, and no offset agreements or the assignment of additional government or contractor representatives to Italy are foreseen.
