Currently, as shown in the image, the aircraft is orbiting south of the Peloponnese, apparently to burn off fuel before landing at Souda Bay Air Base, located on the island of Crete.
The RC-135W is a strategic reconnaissance aircraft equipped to gather electronic information and carry out intelligence activities. These aircraft monitor radio communications, radar signals, and other transmission sources, making them essential tools for surveillance and reconnaissance operations in sensitive geopolitical contexts.
The area of interest for this flight initially seemed to be the Black Sea, a geopolitically sensitive region, especially given the tensions between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the presence of NATO forces in the vicinity. However, for unspecified reasons, the aircraft changed its course, heading south.
Currently, the aircraft is engaged in a series of orbits around the southern part of Greece, presumably to reduce fuel levels before making a safe landing at Souda Bay, an important NATO facility in the Eastern Mediterranean.
