Italian AAR mission over Iraq

In these minutes an Italian Air Force Boeing KC-767A (reg. MM62226 – c/s ROMAN13) is carrying out an aerial refuelling over northern Iraq, near Tikrit. The aircraft took off from Kuwait city Int’l.

This KC-767A has been in Kuwait since 11 April (except for a brief return to Italy in connection with the evacuation of Italian citizens from Sudan).

The Italian National Contingent Command Air (IT NCC AIR) operates in Kuwait to provide a significant contribution to coalition operations aimed at definitively defeating Daesh.

From the Ali Al Salem area base, in fact, the Italian military carry out surveillance, reconnaissance and data collection activities with Eurofighter and Predator aircraft, used to guarantee the safety of the civilian population and personnel working in Iraq. The Task Force Air also ensures the in-flight refuelling of Coalition assets with the Air Force’s KC-767A aircraft and, in a joint context with the Italian Army, provides partners with air defence with the SAMP/T Integrated Air and Missile Defence System.

Moreover, thanks to the C130J aircraft, Medevac and Air Lift operations are carried out, as well as tactical transport in the ‘Prima Parthica’ operation, regarding Iraqi territory, and EUTM regarding Somali and Djibouti territory.
