We had never had two Hellenic Air Force Embraer AEW&C in flight tracked at the same time.
This morning two aircraft that took off from Elefsis AB, near Athens, operated two different missions simultaneously.
The first one (reg. 729 – c/S OURANOS32) operated over the Aegean Sea between 08:54 CET and 10:37, detaching the ADS-B transponder.
The second (reg. 374 c/s OURANOS11 ) carried out its mission over setterntrional Greece between 08:59 and 10:37, again detaching the ADS-B transponder.
The Embraer EMB-145H AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) is a Brazilian-made aircraft used for airborne surveillance and command and control. The Hellenic Air Force operates four of these aircraft, which are based at Elefsis Air Base.
The Greek AEW&C aircraft are equipped with the EL/M-2083 radar system, which provides long-range detection and tracking capabilities for air and surface targets. The radar is capable of detecting and tracking aircraft, missiles, and ships at ranges of up to 400 kilometers.
In addition to the radar system, the Greek AEW&C aircraft are also equipped with a range of other sensors and communication systems, allowing them to provide real-time situational awareness and command and control capabilities to friendly forces in the air and on the ground.
The Greek Air Force has used its AEW&C aircraft in a number of operations, including border patrols, maritime surveillance, and search and rescue missions. The aircraft have also been deployed in support of NATO operations, such as Operation Active Endeavour in the Mediterranean.
