The (new) Hunt for the Red Kilo

On this last afternoon of the year, some cold war moments took place in the south of Sicily.

The Russian Navy Rescue Tug “Spasatel Bekh” (SB-739, MMSI 273542830) is currently sailing south of Sicily together with the Kilo-class SSK Novorossiysk (B-261) back to the Black Sea after maintenance in Kaliningrad.

A USN Boeing P-8A returning from a mission in the Eastern Mediterranean did not miss the opportunity to take a closer look at the pair of Russian ships before landing at Sigonella at 16:37 CET.

In the next days missions of this type could probably increase as the Russian submarine will move closer to Crete where the USS Truman is currently moored (at Souda).
