Yesterday, at 19:00 local time, the Russian Navy frigate Admiral Golovko (Project 22350) was spotted sailing westbound off the coast of Gibraltar, marking its departure from the Mediterranean Sea and its entry into the Atlantic Ocean.

The vessel, part of the Russian Northern Fleet, is one of the most modern frigates of the Admiral Gorshkov-class, designed for escort missions, anti-submarine warfare, and long-range strike capabilities.

Admiral Golovko had entered the Mediterranean in November 2024, and its presence had been monitored over the past few months, amid a particularly tense international context.

Russian presence in the Mediterranean has been reduced to a minimum; currently, it consists of only a frigate, a spy ship, a submarine, and a support tanker.
