This morning, the airspace over the Baltic states and the Baltic Sea region experienced significant aerial surveillance activity by NATO and allied aircraft.
In detail:
- Boeing RC-135W (ZZ665) One of the most important aircraft for electronic surveillance, used by the Royal Air Force, patrolled the area over Latvia and Lithuania. This aircraft is capable of gathering information on radar signals and enemy communications.
- Boeing RC-135V (64-14844) The American version of the renowned electronic reconnaissance aircraft, operated by the US Air Force for electronic surveillance missions. It followed a route over Poland, Lithuania, and the Baltic Sea.
- Boeing E-3A (LX-N90442) A NATO AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft, essential for monitoring air traffic and coordinating defense missions.
- Bombardier ARTEMIS (N488CR) Operated by the US Army, this aircraft specializes in gathering electronic signals and intelligence missions.
- Bombardier ARTEMIS (N519L) A second aircraft of the same type, with similar functions to the previous one, flew over Estonia and the Baltic Sea.
- Gulfstream Korpen (102002) Belonging to Sweden, this is an electronic surveillance aircraft used to collect information on communications and radar signals.
- Saab S100D (100004) Another Swedish aircraft, used for maritime and land surveillance missions.
Additionally, at least one USAF Boeing B-52H (60-0007) was also operating in the area.
This massive presence of surveillance aircraft is part of the ongoing monitoring operations conducted by NATO and its allies to control the Alliance’s eastern borders. The intensification of these missions is a direct response to rising geopolitical tensions in the region, with particular attention to Russian military activities.
The recorded flight paths show that these aircraft primarily fly over the Baltic states and the Baltic Sea, staying within NATO airspace while ensuring constant surveillance of activities along the Russian border.
Surveillance operations will continue in the coming weeks, representing a key element for the security and stability of the region.
