US Military Surveillance Over NATO’s Eastern Borders

After the mission of a US Navy Poseidon tracked this morning (for the first time in several years), today US planes carried out two more missions along NATO’s eastern borders, covering the entire border from north to south.

A Boeing RC-135V (reg. 64-14844 – call sign JAKE17) monitored the border from Finland to the Baltic states and Poland, deviating offshore near Russian naval bases in the Murmansk Peninsula. The rest of the border, from Poland to Romania, was monitored by a Northrop Grumman RQ-4B (reg. 11-2046 – call sign FORTE10), which took off from NAS Sigonella.

This further demonstrates how, in this historical moment, it will be difficult to operate without US support, even in the field of intelligence gathering.
