A French Navy Breguet Atlantique (reg. 16) that took off from NAS Lorient is conducting a surveillance mission over the Baltic Sea off the coast of Kaliningrad.
These types of missions are fairly routine, but during one of the latest operations of this kind, the French aircraft was “illuminated” by a Russian missile system while flying in international airspace.
The Breguet Atlantique is a long-range maritime patrol aircraft designed for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), reconnaissance, and intelligence gathering. Equipped with advanced sensors, radar, and electronic warfare systems, it is also capable of carrying out Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) missions by intercepting and analyzing electronic emissions from potential adversaries. Its ability to detect and classify radar signals, communications, and other electronic transmissions makes it a valuable asset for monitoring military activity in contested regions.
