Russian flotilla left Mediterranean Sea

As expected, the Russian flotilla crossed the Strait of Gibraltar this morning, leaving the Mediterranean. It is interesting to note that only civilian vessels (and military transport ships) exited the Mediterranean, while the military escort units have not been seen crossing the strait.

Specifically, the following ships were reported to have passed through Gibraltar this morning (around 6 AM):

  • Sparta
  • Sparta II
  • General Skobelev
  • landing ships Alexsandr Otrakovsky and Ivan Gren.

It is worth noting that another Russian ship, the Sparta IV, is heading toward Syria, so it is possible that the remaining military units are tasked with escorting it.

Additionally, the military tanker Yelnya has also left the Mediterranean. It had been waiting off the coast of Algeria for about two months and likely refueled the military units last Friday, which then apparently changed course back eastward.
