At this very moment, we are witnessing a true airbridge being established between Russia and Libya.
Two Ilyushin-76TD aircraft (reg. RA-76841 & RA-76845) belonging to the Ministry for Emergency Situations (which also frequently carry out missions on behalf of the Ministry of Defense) are alternating flights between Russia and eastern Libya (specifically Al Khadim Air Base, located east of Benghazi).
It is well known that Russian military assets and personnel, formerly associated with the Wagner Group and now part of the so-called “Russian Afrika Korps,” are present in Libya. Furthermore, Moscow’s focus has shifted towards Cyrenaica, particularly after the situation in Syria, due to the potential to establish both an air and naval base in the region.
Meanwhile, NATO continues to face a significant challenge. These flights are only possible because Turkey remains the sole NATO member that has not closed its airspace to Russian aircraft.
