French mission over the Black Sea

A French surveillance mission is currently underway over the Black Sea.

The operation involves a French Air Force Boeing E-3CF (registration 702), which took off from Avord Air Base in central France and is now flying over the central Black Sea, south of Crimea. The aircraft is not alone; it is escorted by an unspecified number of Dassault Rafale fighter jets.

Also present in the area is an Airbus A330MRTT (registration F-UJCN), which will refuel the Rafales on their return journey.

It is noteworthy that such NATO activity over the Black Sea has not been observed for quite some time.
