BLACKCAT’s orbits off Libya

Last night, a USN Northrop Grumman MQ-4C (reg. 169660 – c/s BLACKCAT5) took off from NAS Sigonella for a surveillance mission off the coast of Libya. While most of the mission could not be tracked, we managed to trace an unusual flight path with BLACKCAT, which orbited for nearly three hours off the coast of Tripoli.

We had never seen such a prolonged series of orbits in an area where, apparently, there was no significant naval activity (or at least none that could be tracked).
