This morning, we’re tracked a U.S. Army Bombardier ARTEMIS “Airborne Reconnaissance and Targeting Exploitation Multi-Mission Intelligence System” (reg. N488CR – c/s BRI068) performing surveillance flights over central Mediterranean, near the Libyan coast. This type of aircraft, based on the Bombardier Challenger 650, is equipped with advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, capable of monitoring large areas from high altitudes.

The aircraft’s flight path shows multiple loops off western and eastern Libya which suggests it may have been conducting reconnaissance or surveillance missions in the region. ARTEMIS planes like this one are commonly used for high-altitude intelligence gathering in contested environments, providing critical battlefield data from a safe distance.

This type of ISR mission could be related to ongoing U.S. military efforts in the region, focusing on monitoring threats and instability, particularly in countries like Libya. The aircraft’s presence underscores the U.S. military’s strategic interest in maintaining awareness of the situation in northern Africa. These planes are also deployed in other conflict zones (ex. Eastern NATO flank) for similar purposes
