Today the United States Navy has deployed a Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton (reg. 169659- c/s BLACKCAT6), for a reconnaissance mission over the Black Sea. According to the flight tracking data the high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) departed from Sigonella, Italy at 2:44 AM CEST, traversing the Ionian Sea, Greece and Bulgaria before entering the Black Sea.

The MQ-4C Triton, with the registration number , cruised at an altitude of 53,000 feet. Its advanced surveillance capabilities enable it to monitor vast regions, gathering critical intelligence and maintaining situational awareness. The UAV maintained a ground speed of 266 knots, covering extensive areas along its flight path.

The Triton flight path revealed a comprehensive surveillance sweep, highlighting the strategic interest in the Black Sea region. This area is of significant geopolitical importance, given the ongoing tensions and military activities. The drone’s high altitude and long endurance allow it to capture detailed imagery and electronic signals over a broad area, providing valuable data for the US Navy and its allies.

It is worth noting that it is unusual to see a US Navy Triton flying over the Black Sea, as until now, the USAF and Navy seem to have divided the sectors of their drone missions (Black Sea for the USAF and Mediterranean for the Navy).
