The Italian Navy aircraft carrier ITS Cavour (C 550) conducted a PHOTEX (“photo exercise”) with the USNavy aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) in the Red Sea.
The maneuvers also involve the frigate ITS Alpino (F 594), which is accompanying the Cavour on its cruise to the Far East, the French destroyer FS Forbin (D 620), part of the European naval mission ASPIDES, and the American destroyers USS Gravely (DDG-107) and USS Laboon (DDG-58).

On the flight deck of the Cavour, 8 fighters are deployed: 2 F-35Bs and 6 AV-8 HARRIER IIs, as shown in the photos. However, it is known that there are at least 4 F-35Bs on board the Cavour, as evidenced by this photo from last week, taken shortly after the unit departed from Taranto.
