On Tuesday, we tracked several RAF aircraft flying from the United Kingdom to Malta in what appeared to be a ‘long-range’ transfer flight (there were two tankers along with an unspecified number of Typhoons).

As expected, Malta was only a stopover, and this morning the aircraft left the island in the middle of the Mediterranean heading east.

Today, 3 Typhoons FGR.4 (reg. ZK368, ZK314, ZK376) are traceable along with the pair of Airbus KC.2 (reg. ZZ333, ZZ338), but there are certainly many more Eurofighters in the air.

The aircraft are headed to Oman and they’re are expected to participate in the Magic Carpet exercise. Exercise Magic Carpet is a two-week flying programme in the Middle East that strengthens the UK’s partnership with the Omani Air Force. RAF Typhoons and Voyagers deploy on multiple air-to-ground and air-to-air missions to practice scenarios and develop essential skills.
