German frigate underway in the eastern Mediterranen Sea

The German Navy frigate FGS Hamburg (F 222), of the Baden-Württemberg (Type 125) class, departed the Turkish port of Mersin this morning and is now underway off the coast of Syria heading south (speed 14,2 knots, heading 174°).

She is part of the naval task force of UNIFIL, the UN peace mission in Lebanon.

The F125 Baden-Württemberg-class frigates are a series of frigates of the German Navy, designed and built by ARGE F125, a joint venture of Thyssen-Krupp and Lürssen. The Baden-Württemberg class has the highest displacement of any frigate class worldwide.

They are primarily designed for low and medium intensity maritime stabilization operations, where they are intended to provide tactical fire support from sea to land, control asymmetric threats at sea, and support special forces.
