The Charles de Gaulle Aircraft Carrier Soon Back in Operation

The French Navy aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle set sail yesterday afternoon to conduct sea trials as part of its unavailability for intermediate maintenance (IEI) initiated in May 2023.

Over the course of 8 months, works under the supervision of Naval Group and overseen by the Fleet Support Service (SSF) have allowed the carrier to maintain and modernize its capabilities. These efforts focused on its combat system, aviation facilities, machinery, onboard hospital, hull, and crew living areas.

The vessel is continuing its gradual power restoration, initially on an individual basis and then accompanied by the embarked air group, before returning to operations with the naval air group (GAN).
