Highly active day of surveillance missions unfolds in the Black Sea region

Extremely intense day in the Black Sea area. We have tracked two U.S. missions: a U.S. Navy Lockheed EP-3E (reg. 156517) took off from Souda Bay AB, conducting a routine mission over the Danube Delta, orbiting over Eastern Romania for several hours.

Meanwhile, a surveillance mission is underway in the Black Sea with a USAF Northrop Grumman RQ-4B (reg. 11-2046, c/s FORTE11) that took off from NAS Sigonella this morning.

Strangely (considering there were already ongoing similar missions), this afternoon, an English reconnaissance mission took place south of Crimea: a RAF Boeing RC-135W (reg. ZZ665), escorted by two Typhoon FGR.4 aircraft (refueled in-flight by an Airbus KC.2).

While tracking these missions isn’t uncommon, tracking them all together certainly is.
