For the first time we record the flight over the Black Sea of, at least, a USAF Rockwell B-1B ‘Lancer’ (reg. 85-0064).

The aircraft took off this morning from RAF Fairford base together with another Lancer (reg. 86-0105) and after an aerial refuelling over Germany and a flight which also took it over Poland it entered the Black Sea at 15:15 just south of Constanta.

No other NATO aircraft are currently traceable in the area.

The Rockwell B-1B, commonly known as the B-1B Lancer, is a supersonic strategic bomber aircraft operated by the United States Air Force. It is a long-range, multi-role bomber designed to deliver large payloads of conventional and nuclear weapons deep into enemy territory. The B-1B features a sleek, variable-sweep wing design that can be adjusted to optimize performance for different flight conditions. It is equipped with advanced avionics and radar systems that enable it to navigate and strike targets with precision. The aircraft has a crew of four, including a pilot, co-pilot, offensive systems officer, and defensive systems officer.

With its high speed, long-range capabilities, and versatile weapons loadout, the B-1B Lancer serves as a key component of the United States’ strategic bomber fleet, providing a powerful deterrent and the ability to project force around the world.
