Monitoring the Strait of Sicily

New patrol mission over the central Mediterranean Sea for a USNavy Boeing P-8A that took off from NAS Sigonella.

Yesterday the aircraft patrolled the Ionian Sea while today it moved further west patrolling the Strait of Sicily.

In particular, the aircraft orbited south-west of Malta for a long time.

Naval tracking sites show no ships of particular interest in the area, but obviously not all ships are displayed (and, of course, not even what is under the surface is displayed).

Meanwhile the Russian vessel “Ester” is further west off northern Tunisia sailing west.
