This morning a USNavy Lockheed EP-3E “Aries II” ( reg. 159887) departed from Souda Bay AB is making an usual SIGINT (Signals intelligence  is intelligence-gathering by interception of signals, whether communications between people or from electronic signals not directly used in communication) mission off Tripoli and western Libya.

The aircraft has departed from Souda around 09:00 CEST. We’ve not a track of the Aries in the area of operations but we can indicate the zone with a good precision because it’ was tracked by a received located in Malta. Always operating in S-MODE and as there are not enough receivers in the area to track it via MLAT so we cannot accurately determine its position.
