The ship of the Italian Navy Landing Platform Dock San Marco (L9893) left the port of Brindisi this morning in the direction of Iskenderun, Turkey, in aid of the people affected by the earthquake..

On board the ship there are Army vehicles and personnel specialized in logistical handling.

In addition, the ship carries the field hospital of the Civil Protection of the Piedmont Region: it is one of the twelve certified worldwide to operate in international disaster scenarios with a medical-surgical team of the highest professional level.

It includes a triage area, an emergency room set up in spaces for the correct management of the various color codes, operating rooms, a laboratory area (radiology and blood chemistry tests) and 4 intensive care beds.

Furthermore, the first volunteers of the eight regional civil protection groups embarked on the San Marco, who, once at their destination, will take care of the logistics for the transport and assembly of the 12 prefabricated modules that will become the field hospital.

In all there are 41 people (electricians, plumbers, but also translators and personnel trained in field emergency actions for 118) with 20 vehicles, such as small excavators and earthmoving machines to help set up the camp.
