Update on the situation in the Mediterranean

Another eventful morning in the Mediterranean.

Around 10:00 CET an Italian Air Force ATR P-72A (reg. MM62279) took off from Sigonella AB towards the east.

When the aircraft was about halfway between Sicily and Crete the track disappeared.

We do not know what the type of mission is, but it could be related to the presence of Russian units in the area (perhaps the corvettes that were in the Adriatic last week?).

In the meantime, the tanker Akademik Pashin, which we spotted in the Adriatic last week, should have arrived at the Syrian port of Tartus tonight.
