Unusual scenario on the eastern Mediterranean:

  • a USAF Boeing KC-135R (reg. 57-1439) is carrying out an aerial refuelling mission over the sea off Syria
  • a little further south a USAF Bombardier E-11A (reg. 11-9355) is orbiting the eastern Mediterranean (this is the first time we have seen it at work in the sector, it is usually deployed over Iraq)
  • a USAF Boeing RC-135W (reg. 62-4130 – callsign SAURON56) now in action north of Iraq has long orbited off Syria
