For the first time in a long time, in the last days we’ve recorder the simultaneous presence of two American aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean.
As we saw a few days ago, the USS George W. Bush (CVN-77) entered the Mediterranean to take over from the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), which has been in the area since December.
The Truman’s stay has been increased following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and in these days she will leave the Mediterranean to return home, but in the last days the two units (and their Combat Strike Groups) are operating together between the southern Adriatic and the Ionian Sea.
The two aircraft carriers can each carry around 90 aircraft (including aircraft and helicopters). This means that to date the USNavy can deploy almost 200 aircraft in the Mediterranean. Such a massive presence has not been seen for years.
