Russian Navy Slava class cruiser south of Crete

Last week we wrote about the possible presence of a Russian major unit in the Ionian Sea (a Slava-class cruiser, possibly the Varyag).

In the last few days we have tracked several unusual activities around Crete: first the mission of an Italian Air Force P-72A and then that of a Turkish Navy P-72MPA.
We had speculated that these missions might be related to the presence of Russian units in the area.

Today, thanks to the work of our friend Sergio Scandura, we have received confirmation that there is indeed a Slava-class cruiser in the area.

The ship is located south of Crete and has been refuelled by the tanker Vyazma that departed from Tartus.
At this point, the Russian ship can continue its mission in the central Mediterranean.
