Monitoring Russian Navy

Again this morning, there is intense NATO air activity over the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

Between Crete and Cyprus, two assets are in action, a US Navy Boeing P-8A from NAS Sigonella and a Turkish Navy ATR P-72MPA (callsign TURNA02) from Dalaman. Both carried out low-level orbits in the area.

We had also tracked similar missions the other day.

We don’t know the reasons for all this activity concentrated in the area, but almost all of the Russian fleet in the Mediterranean is in the area and in recent days an Akula class nuclear submarine has also entered the Mediterranean, bringing the total number of Russian submarines present to 3.
