Unusually intense NATO activity over the eastern Mediterranean east of Crete.
In the area they are active, or are arriving:

  • Turkish Navy ATR P-72MPA (reg. TCB-752, callsign TURNA42) departed from Dalaman
  • USNavy Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk (reg. 166589) departed froma USNavy unit in the area (not traceable)
  • RCAF Lockheed CP-140 (reg. 140103) took off from Sigonella
  • USNavy Boeing P-8A also departed from Sigonella

We don’t know the reasons for all this activity concentrated in the area, but almost all of the Russian fleet in the Mediterranean is in the area and in recent days an Akula class nuclear submarine has also entered the Mediterranean, bringing the total number of Russian submarines present to 3.
