The Italian Navy frigate “Libeccio” (F572) has rescued a crew member of an Italian fishing boat reportedly injured by warning shots fired by the Libyan Coast Guard, Italian media said Thursday.

The Libyans opened fire near three fishing boats, the Aliseo, the Artemide and the Nuovo Cosimo, in the central Mediterranean Sea, around 75 miles north of the Libyan city of Misurata, Corriere della Sera reported. The two vessels have not been sequestered by the Libyans.

In the area intervened also an Italian Air Force ATR P-72A (reg. MM62280 – callsign IAM4103) landed in Sigonella AB around 19:00 CEST.

Three day ago a similar case occurred (without injureds) off the coast of Cyrenaica with the intervention of the ITS “Alpino”.
