From what is learned from French sources, the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier (R91) should leave the port of Toulon in the coming days for a new operational mission.
It has not been made known what its theater of operations is but it is very likely that it is the eastern Mediterranean. In recent times, the French ship has often operated in the region, mainly to support operations against DAESH.
Moreover, today, due to the growing tensions with Turkey, the strengthening of the French military presence in the area (three French Air Force Dassault Rafale are based in Paphos, Cyprus) is also to be read as a warning to Ankara.
On 10 September a visit of the French President Macron should be held in Athens during which an important military supply contract should be signed (also including 18 Rafale for the Hellenic Air Force of which 8 will be donated by France to Greece).
The Carrier Strike Group consisted of:
– aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle (R91) and its airwing (18 Rafale M, two E-2C Hawkeye aircraft, one NH90 NFH helicopter and two Dauphin helicopters. )
– a multi-mission frigate
– an air defense frigate (FDA)
– a command and refueling vessel
– a nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN)Â
